Heart disease and the risk of stroke

Heart function, in general, gives doctors a good idea of someone's risk of stroke. And the diseases that affect the heart, which also have an impact on the brain, can vary from high blood pressure and atherosclerosis, to heart attacks and arrhythmias.

This is why if you have been affected by any of these diseases, you should always keep in mind that the conditions that affect the heart can often affect the brain as well. And it is your job to keep your brain in good shape. After all, stroke is the third cause of death in the United States and a major cause of long term disability.

So remember. If you suffer from heart disease, staying stroke free is an attainable goal. The next time you get a chance, talk to your doctor about stroke prevention.
