Questions for your doctor

Tuesday February 24, 2009
After a stroke a great part of your daily activities should aim to prevent a second stroke. After all, a prior stroke is a very significant risk factor for a new one. Eating healthy, exercising, and taking your medicines are all very important aspects of this plan. Both you and your doctor need to work together to make this happen.

How can your doctor help you? Aside from the obvious, your doctor can answer all your questions. Here are some very important questions to ask him or her.

  • Why did I have a stroke?
  • Can I skip medication doses?
  • How often should I take my blood pressure?
  • Do I need to take an aspirin or a similar blood thinner every day?
  • Do I need (more) rehabilitation?
  • Should I see a nutritionist?

If you are feeling a litle depressed, you should also ask about whether you can benefit form an antidepressant
