Question: What is a Migraine Aura?
Answer: A migraine aura is an unusual sensation that occurs just before a migraine (or sometimes a seizure) strikes. Migraine auras vary widely, but they usually affect vision just for a few minutes, usually lasting less than one hour, before a headache starts. Auras consist of sparkling lights, wrinkly lines, or simply, blurry vision. Other more rare auras include abdominal pain, transient numbness or weakness on either side of the face, arm or leg, vertigo, and, in some cases, a feeling of deja vu.

Migraines, especially those with an aura have been linked to an increased risk of stroke.
