Definition: A medical test that uses x-rays and a radioactive dye in order to visualize the arteries that bring blood to organs such as the brain and the heart. The radioactive dye, also known as contrast, is injected into the venous system using an intravenous line. CTAs are commonly used by stroke doctors to investigate causes of stroke such as carotid stenosis, arteriovenous malformations and aneurysms, among others.
