Definition: Increased pressure in the brain due to an excess of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is a liquid that normally surrounds the brain and spinal cord tissues. Excess CSF can be caused by 1) abnormally increased production; 2) a decrease in its departure from the skull; 3) an obstruction of its normal flow pattern inside the brain due to a hemorrhage, a tumor or other causes.
