Lose Weight to Reduce Your Risk of Stroke
If you are overweight, one of the most effective ways to minimize your stroke risk is by losing a few pounds. This is true for several important reasons. First, when you decide to lose weight you have identified that losing weight is something that is good for you. This might sound like a trivial point, but for most people this connection is far from obvious. Second, by focusing on losing weight you will begin to make healthy choices such as exercising, and staying away from fat-laden foods. By doing this you will decrease your bad cholesterol and increase your good cholesterol. Thus, losing weight tackles multiple stroke risk factors with one single approach.
To lose weight safely I strongly recommend that you take a safe, not-too-ambitious, approach. Setting your goals too high can set you up for failure. Go slowly. Lose 2, 3, or 4 lbs. in one month, and not 10 or 20. Most people who actually accomplish unrealistic weight-loss goals end up gaining the weight right back.
Weigh yourself regularly. This will keep you focused, and motivated, as you keep track of each pound that comes off.
In this new-year, give yourself the wonderful gift of reducing your risk of stroke by becoming thinner, healthier, and more fit.
