Definition: A test that uses x-rays to generate serial cross-section pictures across the head, which are then processed by sophisticated computers in order to form a three-dimensional image. A head CT allows doctors to visualize abnormalities in the skull, meninges, and in the brain itself, including fractures of the skull bones, and inflammation or bleeding in or around the brain.

A head CT is a rapid and sensitive test to detect hemorrhagic strokes. CT is short for Computed Tomography.
