Definition: MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, a non-invasive test used to visualize organs inside of our bodies, such as the liver, the spleen, the kidneys and the brain, among others.

MRIs help doctors diagnose diseases such as infections, tumors, and other abnormalities in these organs. They are commonly used by physicians in the diagnosis of acute strokes through a special MRI sequence called diffusion weighted imaging (DWI).

One of the greatest advantages of MRIs is that, unlike CT scans, they do not use radiation.
